People can still use B-surge + Wards or B-surge + splinter weapon. You would actually be sacrificing a lot to simply substitute a Mind blast for a B-surge.

But MindBlast is just...infinite energy, you're going to be swimming in it anyway.
Splits, Blind, KD, Pressure, Spike assistance, it's all there.

I do want to see B-Surg back into play, myself.

Like these guys have said, in PvE, it just doesnt do anything special. All it really has going is conditions, the major one been blind. Just run blinding flash on a mindblast bar if you want it. The other option, which i prefer, is eruption, large area blinding which will blind all the melee chars long enough to kill any casters and start on them. So for me, earth beats air in that respect. Then as for damage, AoE damage all the way in PvE so fire wins there.

So basically Air's been out classed by other classes/elements and now the only efficient build is B-surge and B-flash?
If that's the case I'm screwed.
I don't have Nightfall.

i used a dual attunment airspike with cracked, enervating, bflash, lord and lhammer to get thru the alst half of nightfall on my ele..
air eles exist, but the conditions from the air spells are alot more useful than the single target damage from them.

Meh, I run Water, then Air, Then Earth, then Fire. I don't like fire, and will avoid using it unless a team demands I take it. And even then chances are I'll find a differnt team. I'm sure if people paid more attention to Air as a viable line Anet may buff some of the skills.

Gale and Blinding Flash are the only decent Air Magic skills right now, both can easily be used on non air eles more effectively (GoE mesmers, Mind Blast)
/end topic.

Shock isn't an Air Magic skill - it's a non-attribute Warrior skill
As for SDH... 'meh'
I use it on my Air ele in AB, and it'd see play if EProd eles were the new meta Flaggers.
Other than that, it's there if you want to tie up your secondary for a permanent speed boost - IIRC, /A is still more common for Dash and Dark Escape (which stops you getting ganked - SDH isn't gonna stop Dervspike wiping you, especially at only 25%)

There's still a few air spiker/blindbots out there. Mostly double attunement + blind + hammer + orb.
Ages ago, when they nerfed chain lightning, they said something like, "Air magic is supposed to be tops for single target damage, and fire for area damage." The problem is, fire is so twinky now, it's the best for single target damage TOO.

In PVE I find going mainly air good for mass blind and cracked armor because when I mindblast, I usually skip the cracked armor part.

The dual attunement/blind build is still pretty solid in PvE. I rarely use it in PvP though. Or PvE for that matter... So, yeah, I guess it is mostly out of style.

Chiming in -
While it might be my best bit of fun in AB and some other PvP,
yes as others have put it, it doesn't stack up vs other PvE choices, IMO

Here you have one of the good 'ol Aeromancers. Raphael Raven. I can be seen on PvE English European servers.
Usually when I join some more serious partys, they kick me when i ping my set because I use Air Magic, and to everyone, Air Magic sucks. That's too bad. It doesn't. They just don't know it.
My set I won't reveal. But I can say it deserves being called Anti-Warrior with things like Blinding, and knock-downs. And lightning strikes that can't be avoided when they actually run away. And for the mass-effect I got an ace combined with Earth Magic.
They could buff up the Air a bit tho, I agree on that. Too bad they just decreased the duration of Blinding Flash. And some year ago they did it on Chan Lightning, so now I don't use it.

Air eles don't have much going for them as long as fire eles have high AoE AND single target damage in PvE

Air is so not dead:
Air Magic = 12 + 1 + 1
Energy Storage = 12 + 1
[skill]Mindbender[/skill][skill]Arcane Echo[/skill][skill]Energy Blast[/skill][skill]Lightning Orb[/skill][skill]Shock Arrow[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Elemental Attunement[/skill][skill]Air Attunement[/skill]
You can machine gun Lightning Orbs with GoLE and Arcane Echo or you can opt to echo Energy Blast and deal a cool 260 armour ignoring damage straight off the bat. Then follow it up with a Lightning Orb.
It. Smashes. Face.
Blindbot also still works a treat in areas that give you loads of warrior hate:
Air Magic = 12 + 1 + 1
Energy Storage = 10 + 1
Earth Magic = 8 + 1
Restoration Magic = residue
[skill]Blinding Surge[/skill][skill]Lightning Orb[/skill][skill]Shock Arrow[/skill][skill]Gale[/skill][skill]Ward Against Melee[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Air Attunement[/skill][skill]Death Pact Signet[/skill]

Dual attunement Blindbots rock HM PvE. Warders, Snarers and Nukers all work well in NM, but are functionally impaired in HM (Wards are less effective, Fire damage is reduced, Snaring has limited application without SH) whereas the Blindbot does its job with aplomb.
The problem is the Blindbot fulfils much the same role as an SS (anti-melee conditions), with a lower damage output and a susceptibility to enchant stripping. Taking both is doubling up, the SS usually gets the nod.
I'll stick with an Assassin's Promise nuke bar on my Ele (cos it's fun chaining MS) and running MB/RI Warder heroes in NM. Blindbot air eles are a great option in HM.

Blind is sexy, however I prefer a necro since their other skills are better and weakness does the job as well in PvE since most damage comes from auto-attacking.

A Blindbot does Blind, Weakness and Cracked Armour with Blinding Flash / Blinding Surge, Enervating Charge and Shell Shock / Lightning Orb. Toss in Epidemic and you can pretend to be an SS
